What would I have done without you?

Each time I decided to fly, my wings collapsed and I dropped right down,
I looked for help and searched for a hand but I all I got was just a frown.
Searching eyes and tough times I longed for a companion and wandered around,
Wrong decisions and I stumbled around and hatred was the only thing found.
Hollow from inside and worn out from the top, I stopped wishing to fly high,
Fortunes came knocked my door but all I gave was a wry smile and a sigh.
Amidst the attention hungry mean world, I found a shy little angel eager to fly,
Is she the one I was waiting for, confused, I asked her and waited for a reply.
Never in my life was I so nervous and excited to get an answer to a question,
She took her time and thought about the task and “let’s fly” was the solution.
I jumped around elated and ecstatic and looked at the world in bemusement,
It wasn’t the same, it was colourful and lovely, I danced around in amusement.

Promises exchanged and feelings shared, we started to grow stronger and stronger,
Nothing said but all understood we sat looking into each other longer and longer.
Resting in my arms I knew I was holding my world and I would let you go never,
I looked at her and she smiled at me and assured that she is resting there forever.
Ambition and true grit in her eyes, she showed me how to chase your dream,
You go out there, battle it out and never quit till you learn to swim upstream.
Said my prayers and went out flying and always remembered what she said,
Job done, I sailed through, joyous I returned and she kissed me on my head.
All said and done she went back home and promised to back me throughout,
I love you so and I love you more and without your backing I will burnout.
Days pass, the longing increases, I flip in my bed in misery and sorrow,
But I know the stars will shine and you will be back and fill my arms again tomorrow.

You are the colour and the life in my life and what would I have done without you.
